Historical/Ag Tour of Malin

JULY 5 -6, 2019 MALIN AG/HISTORICAL TOUR

The bus tour will start at 9am both days between the Malin Community Hall, 2307 Front St. (Former Cheese Factory) and Malin City Hall, 2432 4th St. (Former Malin Clinic). Come early to get your seats! Mayor Gary Zieg and Ryan Bartholomew, President of the Malin Historical Society, will conduct the tour. Gary and Ryan will be doing a presentation on Malin’s past, present and future plans. The bus will travel past the Fire Department (Former Malin Elementary School) and show you the current Elementary School on 3rd St where the former Malin High School was located. It will then turn on Rosicky Avenue so you can see the Industrial area that includes Circle C Marketing, Baley-Trotman Farms, and Winema Elevators. From there it will stop at the newest business Cascade Potato for a tour of their facilities.

The tour will then take you down South Malin Road where you will see some of the local crops grown and will turn left on Stateline Road to our airport. The City of Malin received a “Patent” from the government in 1948 for land to build a public airport. The airport was very active.  Pilots sprayed local crops from the 1940’s to present day. Its current use is more for recreational flying. In 2012 the airport was renamed in memory of WW11 Pilot Ehle H Reber, a local hero of Malin. Reber and his crew gave the ultimate sacrifice to our great nation on January 23, 1943,  during his seventh mission over Lorient, France. The tour will show you the airport and the memorial in honor of those that serviced in the military.

The tour will then travel back into the downtown area of Malin where Gary and Ryan will showcase the current businesses and update you on the current happenings! You will have an opportunity to check out the museum, Broadway Theater, Way Station (former Broadway Hall/ skating rink-dance hall) and view the veteran’s park.

Hope you can come enjoy hearing about our wonderful community!
